Adult Bat Mitzvah 1 Year, 9 Months ago

Help! I am a 53 yo planning my Bat Mitzvah party. I have no clue what to do about the actual party. We have already reserved a room at a local hotel, set up the start time for drinks, etc. and dinner and arranged for a DJ. I hear there should be a theme to the party and all kinds of crazy things that happen at kids parties. I want to do something low key, not too $$, but will be enjoyed by all.
I'd appreciate any and all suggestions.
BTW, I've never planned a bar/bat mitzvath (no kids).
Thanks in advance

sharabele, what a beautiful name!
First, Mazel Tov! And welcome to the forum.
It seems like you're on the right track with you preparations. Food and drink are indeed a must. I would encourage dancing, so the DJ is also a good addition. I am kind of a terrible dancer, but still, dancing makes the evening really happy. Don't forget the circle dancing!
Which text are you studying for your mitzah?

I think that most of the guidelines that apply to a kids mitzvah party applies also to adult mitzvah party, isn't it so? A theme really adds to every party, and the process of choosing a theme is same with adults. Think about a subject, movie, area, etc, that are close to your heart, and start from there the search for your party's theme. What theme ideas do you already have in mind?
