Samba Goal Powered by R 10 CD As if being arguably the biggest name in soccer in 2006 wasnt good enough, superstar Ronaldinho decided to branch into other venues and helped compile an album of some of his favorite Brazilian songs. Though much of the Samba Goal Powered by R 10 (R 10 is a kind of symbol for the midfielder 10 is the number on his national team jersey) focuses more on contemporary Brazilian artists, there are still a smattering of older stars, including Jorge Ben, Gilberto Gil, Alcione, and of course, the Tamba Trio, whose song, Mas Que Nada was also featured in a 2002 World Cup commercial that starred Ronaldinho and other venerable teammates. Another highlight is that the Bara star himself, ostensibly not wanting to lose perhaps his only chance at musical fame, sings on Sambatris opening track, the appropriately named (at least pre-2006 tournament) Goleader (and he doesnt sound half bad, either). Samba Goal may not be the most complete collection of Brazilian music or a showcase of its best work, but thats not really its intended purpose. Its what Ronaldinho likes, and maybe even some of what he was listening to as he first began to score goals as a child. Its unfortunate it wasnt able to have the same effect for him in Germany, but it was probably great for the plane ride home. Marisa Brown, All Music Guide Tracks 1. Goleador (348) 2. Festa (326) 3.
