The Candle Lighting Ceremony - Songs
Written by Doctor Simcha
  • Have a song for every candle, or choose one or two songs for the whole ceremony.

  • Provide the DJ with a list of the songs to play, the people who will be called up to light the candle and the order. This will prevent inaccuracies and will allow the DJ to follow along and play the correct songs at the correct time.

  • Choose a music that people can walk up with. Even practice at home, to see if the rhythm fits grandma's walking, or the sister's jumping!

I have a different song in the background for each honoree. even though many people use this tradition already, it really adds more fun to the candle lighting, because everyone wonders what song will be played for them. Aslo telling a funny story aout what happened once with that person is good.

Hi Mike, your Rabbi's suggestion about honoring the Shabbat with a candle is great. Thanks for this precious contribution. I added it to the site and gave you a credit. Cheers!

We also thought to try and find something different and yet meaningful. Our Rabbi suggested that my daughter light her first candle in honor of Shabbat. She used this opportunity to explain how Jewish women have been doing it since Sarah and how beautiful a tradition it is.
The speech was wonderful, the BM was great and she still lights the candle every Friday night!
Thanks for sharing and caring,
Mike

I am not sure if I want to have a candlelighting ceremony for our daughter's BatMi. We love this tradition, but sometimes it gets to be the same thing at every BM. I am looking for an original way to do it.
