Bar Mitzvah Favors Etiquette
Written by Doctor Simcha
  • You can choose to give fancy favors, or simple favors. The Doc's prefers not to spend money on expensive favors. It is easy to find party favors under $5 or $10 each.

  • Thinking of of skipping the favors? Some people say that favors go quickly to the trash anyway, so why spend the fortune? The Doc's thinks the favors that are usefu and affordable are easy find. Anyway, if it is not important for you to give away favors, don't feel pressured to do so. The Doc went to many Bar Mitzvahs without favors, and it didn't make a big.

  • When you are considering if to give away favors or not, take into account the norm where you live.

  • The DJ is giving out most of the favors and giveaways.

Thinking back to at least my own Bat Mitzvah, as well as my younger sister's and 3 younger cousins, I remember us giving out personalized T-shirts, Dr. Scrub pants, gym bags, sweat pants. As a bonus passed out in 1997 when the Chicago Bulls won a Championship the night before a cousin's Bat Mitzvah, my uncle purchased shirts and hats as giveaways. Anyone could do that with their child's favorite sports team. Even movie tickets for an admission for a single ticket. We even got towels from another one and they held up for quite some time. Another idea like wedding alternatives to favors, make a chariatable donation to your child's favorite cause in each guest's name.

Rachel, there are really no strict rules here, and it really depends on your budget and your personal preference. Do you have enough ipod and gift cards for everyone? If not, my feeling is that it is better to let the kids enjoy the favors. I am sure your favors will be a success, kids love anything that has to do with ipods. And adults too! Mazel Tov!

I talked to my daughter's friends and they all loved the idea of the photographer printing photos of them and their friends as favors!

I'd like also like to do some free raffles of ipod shuffles and itunes gift cards. About 50 people in attendance. The question is should we include the few adult guests or is it just for the kids. The kids will have other giveaways we provided done by the DJ.

Sounds Great, Jillian's mom, thanks for posting!
Here's a shop on the web that has a good collection of picture frame party favors.

We're going to do photo favors. I found inexpensive frames and hired a photographer to take photos of the guests and print them out that night. So, all the guests will go home with their own framed picture.
