Ha-Motzi Blessing
Written by Doctor Simcha
  • The Ha-Motzi ceremony is usually held at BM parties, before dinner. The HaMotzi blessing is the Jewish blessing said before eating bread.
Blessed are You, Lord, our God, King of the Universe
who brings forth bread from the earth.
(Amen)

and in Hebrew:

Barukh atah Adonai Elohaynu melekh ha-olam
ha-motzi lechem min ha-aretz.
(Amen)
  • Decide on the person who will recite the Motzi - usually the grandfather or one of the uncles. Don't forget to pass the name to the DJ.

  • Why won't you bake the challah for your BM? It is a mitzvah!

  • For the HaMotzi you need a challa cover. BM is a good occasion to buy these religious items, that will be used by the family also in the years and holidays to come. Here are two refreshing alternatives for your challah cover:
    Renaissance challah cover, silk (Judaism.com)

    • Have one of your relatives or friends sew a challah cover. At the ceremony, let the MC announce who is the one who prepared this beautiful work of art!

    • Challah covers are also offered online. ZaraMart's coversThe prices at Judaism.com are higher, but the designs are also colorful and they have a good variety of materials - silk challah covers, velvet challah covers and appliqued/embroidery challah covers

  • Jepeta challah board & knife, stone (Judaism.com)
After the blessing the challah is sliced with a knife. In The Doc's family simchas, the tradition is to let each family member tear a piece of the challah, good fun!

  • A challah tray will be another respectful addition for the Ha-Motzi ceremony. Look for these items with your caterer or at your home. A BM is a wonderful occasion to refresh your family's religious items collection with a shiny new challah board tray and challah knive
